Chalet Thalassa - Description

With 11 bedrooms sleeping up to 24 guests this is our biggest chalet yet, and it ticks so many boxes whilst retaining the cosiness and charm you would expect from an alpine chalet. Regular visitors enjoy the convenience of the well thought out facilities such as the convivial on site bar (with draught beer and a full range of alcoholic and soft drinks), and our well-equipped ski hire facility with prices far lower than the shops. After a hard day on the slopes you can opt to unwind in the traditional sauna or the big outdoor hot tub with spectacular views of the surrounding peaks. When you add a cracking location between the slopes of Morzine and Avoriaz into the equation you may think that such a property is going to be expensive… well think again! Take a look at our prices and you will see that Chalet Thalassa represents genuine value for money for the price conscious skier.

Shortly after getting off the ski bus you enter the chalet at street level and can leave your equipment in the heated ski room before heading through in to the bar. Freshly baked cake and hot drinks await you in the lounge but if you fancy something stronger you certainly wouldn’t be the first person to get distracted by the bar! If our staff are not around you can still enjoy a cold beer – just help yourself and mark it up on the honesty bar tally sheet!

The first floor lounge area is the best place to warm up after a day in the snow and with plenty of soft seating, a big open fire and unlimited tea and coffee it is easy to see why a lot of people struggle to get any further! With a good collection of movies available you could always enjoy some TV before dinner or why not share photos of your exploits with jealous friends back home using our free WiFi! If your muscles are aching there is always plenty of time before dinner to pop back downstairs to the 8 man sauna, or make your way out in to the snow and enjoy the spectacular views of the valley of the slate mines from the comfort of the 7 man hot tub. As darkness falls the lights of the piste bashers can be seen in Avoriaz, Morzine and Les Gets, preparing our slopes for another epic day!

However you choose to relax after the ski day your peace won’t be disturbed as chef prepares a delicious 3 course evening meal in the detached kitchen. When dinner time arrives the 6 tables in the cosy dining room can be arranged in various ways to suit the groups in the chalet. Most guests struggle to go too far after a 3 course meal but if you fancy a nightcap the bar is only a set of stairs away! For those with a bit more energy why not take a stroll down to the old town of Morzine, just 10 – 12 minutes away on foot.

Since its construction in the early 1980s the owner of Chalet Thalassa has carefully improved the chalet to provide a charming, homely and yet extremely practical space in which to host visitors. The budget bedrooms that share WC and shower facilities are every bit as charming as those with ensuites, but we have kept the price lower on those in order to help people on a tight budget. We also have a couple of good family options with an ensuite quad room or two bedrooms on the first floor that can be locked off to form a family suite. With prices starting from just £450 for a catered week it is no surprise that this chalet books up so fast! Short breaks are also available from just £70 per night so get in touch soon to book your space!

What can we arrange for you ?

As well as making sure that your accommodation and food meets and exceeds your expectations we can help to remove most of the usual stresses associated with a ski holiday. There's so much to think about but once you have booked your stay with us we will gladly guide you through the minefield of airport transfers, ski passes, equipment rental, ski lessons and so forth. Take a look at the "My Holiday" section of this site for more comprehensive information and if anything isn’t clear just give us a shout! We work with carefully selected partners in resort to make sure that we are recommending the best options at the best prices.

We understand that ski holidays are not cheap and that’s why it is important to pick a company that will go the extra mile for you. We pride ourselves on our personalised professionalism.

Transport in Resort

We don't provide lifts to the slopes or back from town as all of our chalets are conveniently located near a free ski bus stop, giving you the freedom to come and go as you please.

However, if you need an evening taxi to get back from town or would like us to arrange a taxi every morning to the cable cars we will gladly book these for you in resort or in advance. Depending on the time of day a taxi from the centre of resort to the chalet will be around €20 for an 8 seater minibus.

We are always happy to welcome younger guests to our chalets and understand the expense involved with a family ski holiday. To that end we have some of the biggest child reductions in the area and can tailor our service to help Mum and Dad by suppling cots, stair gates, high chairs etc in all chalets. Each chalet has a safe outside space in which children can enjoy building snowmen!

We also offer a children's menu in all chalets. Our approach to this is simple; we have a chat with you about your children's diet to find out what they like and what they don't like. We usually offer the same menu as the parents but simplified and with no strong flavours. For example with the Tartiflette, we will use less garlic, less onion, no wine, less reblochon (smelly local cheese) but more bacon, more Emmental and green beans or carrots as a side dish. However we are happy to do any of the classic children's favourites such as fish fingers, cottage pie, spaghetti bolognaise … and there is always plenty of tomato sauce in stock!

Should you wish for your little ones to be looked after (either in the comfort of the chalet or the local snow garden) we can help you to make arrangements. There are plenty of great childcare options in the area.

Jack Frost's:

A well run and highly professional British nanny agency that can either offer a service in the comfort of the chalet or collect the children from their ski lessons. The nanny brings a selection of toys, arranges a whole range of fun activities during the week and can cook a simple and healthy lunch. They can arrange to do some baby-sitting during the evenings too.

Cheeky Monkeys:

Another British-run company based in Morzine. They can care for your children in the holiday chalet or they can also provide a pick up and drop off service for children in ski school. The nanny brings a selection of toys suitable for all ages and the nanny will have a selection of activities arranged for your children during the week.

Piou-Piou club:

From 3 years old. This is the nursery club of the French Ski School (ESF) in Morzine. Children are looked after in a "snow kindergarten" or on the slopes by ESF instructors. When the children are not partaking in skiing activities, the team of instructors will provide fun indoor and outdoor activities, depending on the weather.

L'Outa Nursery:

This fully accredited creche in Morzine looks after children from 3 months old to 5 years and is run by a non-profit organisation. It has a dedicated baby room for children under 16 months old with feeding stations, changing rooms and beds. Older children benefit from play rooms, a dining room and a great outdoor playground.

Evening meal on Chalet Day off

Morzine has a great culinary tradition and the world is your oyster! When you arrive, we will be more than happy to chat about your preferences, recommend and book a restaurant table for you.

Morzine tourist office also offers a great directory of all the restaurants in town.

- Our cuisine --

"Our cuisine follows a simple philosophy; Hearty meals carefully prepared with fresh local produce"

Sylvie, like most Belgians, is passionate about good food and has an excellent palate. She has put this to good use in order to create a menu which is a perfect blend of British, Belgian and Savoyard cuisine. The local specialities such as traditional Tartiflette or a classic French Onion Soup are an important part of our menus, but you will also discover some out of the ordinary dishes such as our Speculoos (caramelised biscuit) Tiramisu or the ‘Carbonades flamandes' (Belgian beef stew), interspersed with comforting British classics such as apple crumble and chicken pie.

The evening menu will be written up each morning and if we have been unfortunate enough to pick something you don’t like just let us know. At the end of the day, the most important thing for us is that you enjoy your food. This is your holiday, not ours!
